Absorbing Boundaries for the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

چکیده

We present a new algorithm, the Time Dependent Phase Space Filter (TDPSF) which is used to solve time dependent Nonlinear Schrodinger Equations (NLS). The algorithm consists of solving the NLS on a box with periodic boundary conditions (by any algorithm). Periodically in time, we decompose the solution into a family of coherent states. Those coherent states which are outgoing are deleted, while those which are not are kept, thus minimizing the problem of reflected (wrapped) waves. Numerical results are given, and rigorous error estimates are described.

Absorbing boundary conditions for solving stationary Schrödinger equations

Using pseudodifferential calculus and factorization theorems we construct a hierarchy of novel absorbing boundary conditions (ABCs) for the stationary Schrödinger equation with general (linear and nonlinear) exterior potential V (x). Doing so, we generalize the well-known quantum transmitting boundary condition of Lent and Kirkner to the case of space-dependent potential. Here, we present a bri...

Absorbing Boundary Conditions for the Two-Dimensional Schrödinger Equation with an Exterior Potential. Part I: Construction and a priori Estimates

The aim of this paper is to construct some classes of absorbing boundary conditions for the two-dimensional Schrödinger equation with a time and space varying exterior potential and for general convex smooth boundaries. The construction is based on asymptotics of the inhomogeneous pseudodifferential operators defining the related Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator. Furthermore, a priori estimates ar...

Absorbing boundaries in numerical solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation on a grid using exterior complex scaling

We study the suppression of reflections in the numerical simulation of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for strong-field problems on a grid using exterior complex scaling ECS as an absorbing boundary condition. It is shown that the ECS method can be applied in both the length and the velocity gauge as long as appropriate approximations are applied in the ECS transformation of the electro...

Open boundary conditions and computational schemes for Schrödinger equations with general potentials and nonlinearities

This paper addresses the construction of absorbing boundary conditions for the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with a general variable repulsive potential or with a cubic nonlinearity. Semi-discrete time schemes, based on Crank-Nicolson approximations, are built for the associated initial boundary value problems. Finally, some numerical simulations give a comparison of the various absorbin...

Anomalous diffusion with absorbing boundary.

In a very long Gaussian polymer on time scales shorter than the maximal relaxation time, the mean squared distance traveled by a tagged monomer grows as approximately t(1/2) . We analyze such subdiffusive behavior in the presence of one or two absorbing boundaries and demonstrate the differences between this process and the subdiffusion described by the fractional Fokker-Planck equation. In par...
